Portrayed by Christian Johnson
Americans cherish the Bill of Rights. And there would be no Bill of Rights without Patrick Henry. A self-taught lawyer rising from poverty, Patrick Henry is a classic example of character, perseverance and indomitable spirit winning out over many, many obstacles. Having struggled his whole life, Patrick Henry wanted to ensure that opportunities balanced challenges and that freedom to pursue life’s goals wasn’t obstructed by governmental interference. This radical argued in defense of broad suffrage before Virginia’s House of Burgesses. While representing Virginia in the Continental Congress, Henry argued for the 5 acts against mother England. Later, as Governor of Virginia and holding a great deal of political sway, Henry was strongly critical of the Constitution: he wanted 50 Rights guaranteed, not merely 10.
Chris Johnson captures the passion and fiery rhetoric of Patrick Henry. Chosen by the American Historical Theatre to interpret Patrick Henry, Mr. Johnson traveled the country during the Bicentennial of the Constitution. Invite Chris Johnson’s Patrick Henry to your event:
