Born in Staunton, the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, educated at J.E.B. Stuart Primary School, Stonewall Jackson Elementary School and Robert E. Lee High School, it could be said that the Civil War is in David Palmer’s blood. Because of Mr. Palmer’s striking physical resemblance to General Robert E. Lee, he has been asked to portray the General since 1999, and has been with the American Historical Theatre since 2003. Besides being the right height, having grey hair and beard, David is also a seasoned horseman. More than that, he shares the values and virtues that the Marble Man demonstrated throughout his life: faith, family, duty and honor.
Mr. Palmer has appeared in venues that have included the Smithsonian Institution in D.C., United States War College, Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, several of the James River plantations, Richmond National Battlefield Parks, and the Virginia Commonwealth University Center on Aging.
