Connie Clowers was drafted. When her husband Larry began portraying Ulysses S. Grant in the late 1990’s, he approached Connie to portray Julia Dent Grant, Ulysses’ loving and loyal wife. Connie rose to the occasion, scrupulously researching and preparing for the role to great effect. Appearing as Julia in US National Parks historical sites that include General Grant National Memorial (Grant’s Tomb); City Point, Virginia (Center of the War, providing food for 100,000 Union Troops) and the White Haven Plantation (Julia Dent’s birthplace, west of St. Louis), Connie has charmed audiences with her endearing portrayal of a daddy’s girl daughter, a military wife, a politician’s helpmate and a mother.
